EDU 322 - Mathematical Literacy and Methods in Primary Education

This course will emphasize the development and teaching of equitable, standards-driven, interdisciplinary lessons and assessments that promote curiosity and the maturation of children’s mathematical thinking in PreK-5 learning environments. Students will explore how to use drawings, manipulative materials, and other representations to help reveal, discuss, and explain the rationale behind the mathematics in all mathematics content domains as articulated by the CAEP K-6 content standards. Phenomena in math education will be explored through a historical lens, including the impact this has on the current state of the field and the future trajectory of math education. 25 hours field experience required. (Spring)

Prerequisite(s): C- or higher in EDU 320 ; minimum 2.85 GPA.
Corequisite(s): EDU 323 , EDU 350 .
