EDU 396 - Scientific Literacy and Methods in Adolescent to Young Adult

This course will emphasize developing and teaching equitable, standards-driven interdisciplinary lessons and assessments that promote curiosity and the maturation of adolescent students’ scientific thinking. Students will explore how to use the 5E Learning cycle (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate) to help reveal, discuss, and explain the rationale behind the science in all science content domains as articulated in Ohio’s Learning Standards in Science. Phenomena in science education will be explored through a historical lens, including the impact this has on the current state of the field and the future of scientific literacy. 50 hours field required. (Spring)

Prerequisite(s): C- or higher in EDU 310 ; minimum 2.5 GPA.
Corequisite(s): EDU 350
