EDU 386 - Mathematical Literacy and Methods in Adolescent to Young Adult 3 Credit Hour(s) Laboratory: 0 Recitation: 2.7 Alternative Mode: 0.3
This course will emphasize developing and teaching equitable, standards-driven interdisciplinary lessons and assessments that promote curiosity and the maturation of adolescents’ and young adults’ mathematical thinking in 7-12 learning environments. Students will explore how to use mathematical practices to reveal, discuss, and explain the rationale behind the mathematics in all mathematics content domains as articulated by NCTM CAEP Standards for Secondary Mathematics Teachers and Ohio’s Learning Standards in Mathematics. Phenomena in math education will be explored through a historical lens, including the impact this has on the current state of the field and the trajectory of the future. 50 hours field experience required. Prerequisite(s): C- or higher in EDU 310 ; minimum 2.5 GPA. Corequisite(s): EDU 350 There is an additional fee with this course.
