Music Major

The School of Music and Theatre, offers a Bachelor of Arts in Music and requires one area of concentration: traditional music or popular music. Bachelor of Arts in Music majors are encouraged to consider a second major to combine their enthusiasm for an active musical life with outside academic interests. Students seeking a music major must audition with the School of Music and Theatre prior to acceptance to the major. Students may audition prior to the start of their first semester or during finals of their second semester. All music majors are to follow the School of Music and Theatre Handbook policies. Please refer to the Bachelor of Music section for degree requirements for all music majors.

The Bachelor of Arts incorporates students in performance, theory, history, and the role of music within society and cultural development. The concentration in Traditional music will focus on musical development within the classical genre, while the concentration in Popular music focuses on American vernacular music.
