Legal Studies is offered as a minor within the Department of History, Political Science, Philosophy, and Religion. It is designed for those interested in pursuing a law degree and for those seeking a deeper understanding of the law and its role in politics, government, history, economics, and society.
Enrollment in the Legal Studies Minor is not required to be designated as a Pre-Law Student. Students interested in law school should consult with the pre-law advisor to determine the appropriate set of courses best suited for their individual preparation.
Students completing a minor in Legal Studies will:
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the Constitutional, philosophical, and historical foundations of American law and the federal judicial system.
- Learn to read, engage, and research legal documents, cases, arguments, and commentary.
- Explore intellectually diverse perspectives on Constitutional and statutory interpretation, justice, and the role of law and the courts in politics and society.
Internships and special topics courses may count toward Legal Studies electives with the approval of the Legal Studies chair.
