Biochemistry (BCH)
The programs of the Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics Department are designed to provide a background in the chemical and biochemical sciences within the context of a liberal arts education. The department offers two majors (Chemistry and Biochemistry) and one minor (Chemistry). These majors and courses of the department are designed to prepare students for employment, professional school or graduate school, teaching in elementary or secondary schools, and scientific research.
Chemistry (CHM)
The programs of the Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics Department are designed to provide a background in the chemical and biochemical sciences within the context of a liberal arts education. The department offers two majors (Chemistry and Biochemistry) and one minor (Chemistry). These majors and courses of the department are designed to prepare students for employment, professional school or graduate school, teaching in elementary or secondary schools, and scientific research.
The Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics Department does not issue grade waivers in any of its majors or minors. Additionally, Chemistry majors are not eligible to double major in Biochemistry.
Physics (PHY)
Physics, housed within the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry deals with the structure and properties of matter, the transformation and propagation of energy and the relationships between matter and energy. Students enrolled in physics can learn physical principles that can be applied to everyday situations and to modern technology from aviation to medical imaging. Students can also learn the consequences of physics in regard to its philosophical implications and social impact such as in theories of cosmology.
