POL 383 - Politics and History of the Middle East 3 Credit Hour(s) Laboratory: 0 Recitation: 3 Alternative Mode: 0
This course examines the contemporary Middle East. Country studies will be emphasized as will regional topics such as political, economic, and human development, the Arab-Israeli conflict, disputes between Shi’a and Sunni, political Islam, Islamic militancy, i.e., Jihadism, resources (particularly oil, natural gas, and water), and foreign (especially American) involvement. (Fall, odd-even years)
Course Exclusion: Students with credit in POL 283 will not earn additional credit for this course. This course is cross-listed with HIS 332 ; students will earn credit for only one course. Fulfills Gen Ed 2011-2021: Writing, Social Science, Global Culture
