NRS 470 - Leading and Managing Healthcare Teams

This course contains both a theoretical and a clinical component regarding the integration of leadership and management in nursing practice. This course expands the nursing leadership process to include interdisciplinary teams and healthcare delivery in organizations. The focus of the course is the nurse’s role in the leadership and management of working effectively within organizational systems. Professionalism, leadership-management concepts, and teaching-learning strategies are integrated to prepare students to function as a change agent for health promotion, maintenance, and restoration in organized healthcare delivery systems. Clinical practice experiences focus on the application of the following elements of leadership that will be given special emphasis throughout the course: vision, goals, motivation, decision-making, time management, financial accountability, power, team building, dealing with change and conflict, communication ethical reasoning, and diversity inclusion. This course meets the Capstone requirement.

Prerequisite(s): Post-licensure nursing major.
