EIS 272 - Educating Learners with Exceptional Needs 3 Credit Hour(s) Laboratory: 0 Recitation: 3 Alternative Mode: 0
The art and science of teaching individuals with exceptional needs will be explored through self-awareness activities, readings, and conversations with students with disabilities, their teachers, and parents. Principles and theories, relevant laws and policies, and diverse and historical points of view will be examined. Human issues that have historically influenced the field of special education and society’s view of individuals with disabilities will be discussed. A wide variety of educational worldviews, pedagogical methods, and practices will be introduced and critiqued. Students will use this knowledge as a ground upon which to construct their own personal understandings and philosophies of special education. (Fall, Spring)
