ANT 255 - Analysis of Cultural Materials 3 Credit Hour(s) Laboratory: 0 Recitation: 3 Alternative Mode: 0
A fundamental aspect of archaeology is the identification, classification and analysis of the cultural remains recovered from archaeological excavations. This course presents students with an introduction to the archaeological record through consideration of an actual archaeological database in a laboratory setting. Background information on the manufacture, use and deposition of various cultural materials will be presented along with the taphonomic processes which lead to the recovery of these materials in archaeological contexts. Students will carry out artifact processing and analysis in an experiential learning situation.
