General Studies (GEN)
The General Studies major is overseen by the Director of the Owen Center for Teaching and Learning and is designed for students who want a broad but flexible program. Students completing this major will earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Pre-Law Minor (PLW)
The Pre-Law Minor prepares students for the rigors of Law School by teaching them critical reasoning skills necessary for their success. The Pre-Law Minor will be required of all students participating in the Direct Entry Program with Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law or the 3+3 program with the University of Dayton School of Law. Students who plan to participate in either program must declare the minor prior to the start of their second year at Heidelberg, and should work closely with an academic advisor in the Owen Center for Teaching and Learning to make sure they complete all requirements in a timely manner.
Self-Designed (SDN)
Interdisciplinary major taught by faculty from several departments; Associate Professor DeMayo Pugno (chair).
English Language Institute (ELI)
The Heidelberg English Language Institute (HELI) offers intensive English language training combined with cultural orientation for students whose native language is not English, but who wish to attend an American college or university. The courses are sequenced according to skill levels of English, ranging from low-intermediate to advanced. A maximum of twelve (12) credits earned for the 100-level courses are applicable toward a degree at Heidelberg University.
In an effort to enhance the international students’ opportunities to improve their communication skills, their understanding of the culture and their ability to intermingle with their American peers, HELI offers peer partners and Culture Exchange in which the students come together in a non-threatening environment for loosely structured conversation and dialogue with Americans. Non-native English speakers participate in small group conversation with American partners. Conversation topics focus on the cultural aspects of American life and society.
