COU 595 - Internship Experience for School Counseling 1-6 Credit Hour(s)
An advanced practice and application of school counseling principles that provides an opportunity for students to receive on-the-job training and experience in an approved school setting. It includes, but is not limited to, individual counseling, group work, developmental classroom guidance, IEP meetings, parent meetings, and consultation. In class, students will participate in group supervision with an emphasis on school counseling skills and the development of a comprehensive school counseling program. Professional identity as a counselor will also be emphasized. Counseling skills will be critiqued through the use of live and/or taped observations in class, in the field, and in the Counseling Laboratory. 600 total clock hours of internship required for state licensure. Every credit hour is equivalent to 100 clock hours. Students may repeat COU 595 up to six times and must complete a total of six credit hours for licensure.
